Talisman

The genesis of this work lies in the recovery by scuba divers of a collection of talismans and amulets from the Red Sea.

Many included cryptic signs and symbols alongside legible pseudo-Arabic script.

This body of work revolves around fragments and fragility … of thoughts and feeling invoked by the attempt to create the tangible from the intangible. Each porcelain sheet is textured and torn, then layered in a collage like way, building up to a whole that pushes the boundaries of the material.
